TAKA'S Take Out Sushi

There are two big misconceptions when it comes to Texas. One, if you're going to play in Texas - you need a fiddle in the band. Two, everything they eat is barbequed.

Well if you subscribed to either one of those theories, please meet TAKA. I know he doesn't barbeque and I think it is a safe bet he doesn't play the fiddle.

TAKA and his wife MEGUMI met a few years back in Austin, Texas. TAKA was a sushi chef in a local restaurant and MEGUMI was working part time as a hostess between courses she was taking at the University of Texas. TAKA learned the fine art of sushi preparation in Tokyo. From Tokyo TAKA made stops in Toronto, Vancouver, and San Francisco before arriving in Austin, the capital of the Lone Star State.

The first thing you notice about TAKA'S sushi is the stunning visual presentation of his food. The take out restaurant located in the 5 Corners district of White Rock on Pacific, also boasts a small sit down sushi bar and limited table service. "When we moved to Vancouver, we wanted to open a restaurant and at first we looked in West Vancouver. Then friends of ours said maybe we should look in South Surrey. We thought maybe we would open in the Southpoint area, but we were unable to find a location that suited our needs," says TAKA. "So we looked here in White Rock and we thought it best for us to start out would be uptown instead of on the waterfront. Some day we hope to maybe open a larger restaurant here in White Rock."

TAKA'S opened on December 18th (MEGUMI'S father's birthday) and have been building up a sizeable and steady clientele ever since. When pressed to name one of the 7 Wonders of White Rock, MEGUMI and TAKA chime in unison "Oh the people. Yes the people of White Rock are so nice. That is one of the wonders of White Rock." Welcome to White Rock TAKA and MEGUMI - we think you are pretty nice too.
